Saltee Ferry: Your Gateway to Adventure
Our Saltee Ferry operates from April to October, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey to the Great Saltee Island. Each vessel is licensed by the Department of Transport and equipped with comprehensive safety and lifesaving equipment, accommodating up to 12 passengers per trip. The departure point is conveniently located at the top of the harbour in Kilmore Quay, beside the boat launching slip. Ample free parking is available adjacent to the harbour, and for those arriving by bus, the stop is situated nearby.


What to Expect on Your Saltee Islands Boat Trip
• Duration: The boat trip to the Great Saltee takes approximately 20 minutes. Upon arrival, you’ll have around three and a half hours to explore the island at your leisure. Our crew will provide a specific time to reconvene at the landing area for the return journey to Kilmore Quay.


• Wildlife Viewing: The Great Saltee is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Depending on the season, you can observe puffins, gannets, and other seabirds in their natural habitat. The island’s diverse flora and fauna make it a photographer’s dream.


• Island Exploration: Traverse the island’s well-marked trails, leading you to vantage points with panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding sea. Remember to respect the wildlife and maintain a safe distance from nesting birds.
